Hello, I got hold of a load of a 40mm 2000 Model as a backup in case my core game comes up short. There is a replacement for the pilot, but no replacement for the AI (although the whole AI segment can be reconstructed). But the stats of the unit feel so right and are so unusual that I think they are plausible...
Though I do not have a complete AI yet, I was trying to automate the process of creating them. I coded something in assembly to output the bits into the simulation, which only does the first step and then the editor can take over.
Just to show off I thought I would try and automate the process of actually creating the AI. That way I can automate future iterations and things will be ready for a quick switch to different AI's.
In the first code there is a string of tokens. This is the "code" of the AI. It should be plaintext.
The text is parsed and line by line the values and operations are put into a record array which stores it. In this record each line consists of a record type, an ID, a status (that is it is an "element" or an "action") and then a value.
When a line is complete it is appended to the AI file which is the result.
Each token is stored in a string at a hard coded location. So "AI" is the first token, "R" is the second token, "E" is the third, etc. And I have three of each token.
Next I have an array of token records. The first record is the "start", the second "active" and the third "stop". This is to allow the editor to turn off the AI or turn on multiple AI's at once.
So the AI that I have now is ready to use. It only has the Start and Active tokens turned on.
Next I have the editor. It takes the AI file as input and from that file it parses out the tokens. It then opens the record file and looks for the "Start" token. It writes all the records to the AI file.
The editor has a couple of buttons. One allows it to start recording and the other button allows it to stop. The state of the stop button is indicated by an additional flag which is shown in the AI file as well.
The start button is simple. It just reads all the tokens from the AI file. 01e38acffe
