This looks to be a good trainer, but are you sure that the brakes are going to stay on? Just because the power is good, the brakes could start slipping in traffic. The newer LS7 engines tend to run hot, so that may not help. I would definitely get the brakes checked out before going any further.
I'm a day and half from your area, so it may be better to pick it up from one of the local enthusiasts.
thanks for the advice. ive heard the brakes are a little high on these aftermarket drum brakes so i will keep an eye on that. ive heard the starter is also a little low so i will also look into that. but overall i think this will work. i dont have any issues with finding parts.
Thanks for the additional info. The LS7's that I have heard about running hot on the brakes and starter are cars that have "upsized" brakes and starters such as a car with big brakes/big starter, big flywheel.
The cars I have driven with the stock small Brakes/Starter have not run hot.
I agree with ZZ on this one. The LS7 is a low-compression engine, so it is going to have issues with brakes and starter that you would not normally expect to find on a car of this class. As a friend of mine put it, 'you are going to be in the pits more often than you are going to be on the road, even if it is just to drive around town.'
These cars tend to run hot on the brakes, due to the long stroke of the LS7 engine and the lack of fluid cooling under the hood. A lot of them are also running a driveline cooler (rather than a radiator) and that can cause more heat as well. They can also be prone to a wheel bearing failure from all that heat. The best thing to do is to have the brake system checked out, to see what the cause of the issue is.
As for the starter, that will require a lot of torque to turn over the motor. If it is an unmodified car, it can be a chore to turn over with just the electric starter, so it is best to replace it with a carbureted one, to get better performance and a better starting point.
Once you have it running, it will run nice and cool, and the brakes should not be an issue.
I would
